In my recent post ‘Unique Photographs’, I introduced the launch of two new books. I am delighted to announce that these are now published and that one has achieved a national Photobook Award.
The Australian Photographic Society (APS) run a range of competitions every year that are open to members and non-members. One of these is the member only annual Photo Book Awards. Earlier this year, as I was preparing my book ‘Behind the Scaffolding’, I used the awards submission deadline as the target date for completing the book. On meeting this target, I entered it into the Open Section of the awards and waited in anticipation.
The results announcement on 10 October pleasantly surprised me with the book achieving second place.
Having reviewed the entries, the three expert judges made the following comments:
‘A great example of commercial work extremely well presented. I admired and loved the details and description of the photographic process and what was required to document the progress of restoration.’
‘Informative, high-quality images. The choice of font was excellent, layout good and consistent. It was absolutely fit for its purpose. The printing quality is excellent.’
‘Placing all explanatory text in index form at the beginning of each chapter allowed the maker to provide necessary information while maintaining a polished, professional feel in which text and captions do not compete for attention with the visual story. Careful, polished overall design and indexing.’
The Awards results and the other entries can be viewed at the APS website.
In celebration of this award, I am offering a 15% discount on purchases of ‘Behind the Scaffolding’, valid until 31 December 2024.
Included in this offer is the other book, ‘Transformation’, that I introduced in my post ‘Unique Photographs’. This book presents photographs of the 24 month project to refurbish the State Library Victoria building in Swanston Street, Melbourne.
