As I explained in my last post, we arrived in Gayndah on Friday afternoon, having stopped in Gympie to have the batteries checked. The campground we decided upon was the Heritage Railway, not surprisingly, adjacent to the disused Gayndah railway station. As we were expecting the rain, we erected the awning so that we could cook meals and, in the process, keep dry.

In my last post, I mentioned that a substantial amount of rain was forecast, well, it essentially rained for 24 hours from Friday afternoon and there is more forecast for Monday and Tuesday. Had we not had a few bookings, we would have been much further west and away from the rain by now.

It seems to have been a while since my last post, but now that we have arrived at Red Cliff Campground for five nights, I have some time to bring you up to date with our travels (and tackle some other admin matters). Red Cliff Campground is a few kilometres south of Yamba on the NSW north coast and, at last, we are having some warmer weather.

One of the disadvantages of the cold weather is that the fingers are a bit reluctant to work on the keyboard. However, we have now arrived at Myall Lake National Park, north of Newcastle, camping close to the sandbar at Symes Bay. The weather has marginally improved, but the nights are still very cold, but I won’t bore you with my complaints about the weather.

Leaving home, we knew that the weather was not going to be great, but we were not really prepared for how cold it has been. Our first day on the road, covering almost 650km, was raining most of the way and cold! Our first night in Cowra was freezing so we didn’t get much sleep and the next two nights in Lithgow were even colder, although by the second night there we slept with so many layers that it was bearable. Now we are in a slightly warmer climate, thank goodness.

With the prospect of colder weather and a yearning for getting on the road again, K and I are in the middle of finalising our plans for our 2022 road trip. The start of our journey last year was dictated by Covid, state border crossings and Covid compliance requirements, but we eventually managed to get to WA and have a great experience. This year our planning seems to be dictated by everyone else having similar plans such that some of the areas we are hoping to visit are booked out, with NSW and QLD school holiday periods adding to the problem. Add to this the further layer of the on-going rain event that has prevailed on the east coast during the past two months and we are having to go into a lot of detail and make bookings that in some cases are more than two months away.
