It was with much relief and excitement that my partner and I heard the announcement last Friday that the Tasmanian border had been opened. Relief, because we had booked the ferry, with fingers crossed, a couple of months in advance, and excitement because of our planned four week circumnavigation around the island state.
Preparation is now well underway with lists of food, equipment and clothing finalised, tents checked and vehicle prepared.
On the trip, we will be mainly camping, but with some other accommodation already booked (again well in advance). At Mount Field, we have booked the Government Huts for three nights (pictured above). These are located about 15km from the entrance to Mount Field National Park at an elevation of 1000m. For Christmas Eve and Night, we are booked into a hotel in Hobart.
Due to the time of year and the limitations on overseas travels, camp sites will be very busy, so, with a few exceptions, we have had to book in advance, thus giving us little flexibility.
